Dental/dental hygiene trainees discuss race and racism and their dental training/education. (2023)
I mean, even when I was in undergrad, I was really involved in the DEI office, and I was involved in a lot of multicultural anti-racism work and advocacy. And we did a lot of just programming, like lunch sessions or afterschool… I mean, it’s college. There’s no afterschool, but you know what I mean, in evening programs. And we’d host talks and have conversations with leaders from all over the country, sometimes from other countries, to come and talk about these issues. So yeah, it wasn’t a requirement, but just having that exposure and seeing there’s a space for this type of conversation to happen frequently, I think, was really validating for a lot of people.
