Dental/dental hygiene trainees discuss finding/recruiting patients and dental training/education . (2023)
There’s a variety of ways that it could look like, but I have classmates that have been out in public and have… I mean one girl was saying she was in an Uber and said, “Do you need a dentist?” And we have business cards and we can hand them out. I was just at a bakery a couple of days ago, and there’s a guy telling me he got a tooth pulled, and I very much opened the conversation with him of, “Do you need a dentist?” But I just didn’t have my business card on me, and he didn’t seem actually interested. But I mean that’s a way where you can open a conversation to random people. Our Director said he used to go to the grocery store, and actually hand out business cards, and talk to people and recruit them. So some people hustle and they do actually go out of their way, and there’s other people I’ve talked to, my friends, and I’ve said, “I’m seeing patients now.” And so they want to come just out of support for me, and have me do an exam on them or cleaning, even if they don’t have significant needs. So, either personal connections or just out in public.
